This position will be located in: Fargo, ND or Minneapolis, MN Job Summary Serves as a key contributor to the generation and maintenance of consistent and accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
Exercises independent judgment and discretion in planning and carrying out the details of work procedures and methods regarding the financial integrity of the company.
Performs the month-end and year-end close process and annual financial statements audits.
Researches and interprets complex accounting policies, processes and regulations while identifying potential improvements to internal controls.
Serves as a subject matter expert of accounting and financial reporting concepts and industry practices.
Responsibilities Essential Functions Key contributor in the organization’s employee stock ownership program (ESOP) stock valuation by reviewing information from our third-party valuation firm.
Leads the 401k and ESOP audits and ensures compliance is these accounting areas.
Responsible for accounting for confidential executive compensation agreements and ensuring proper recognition of expense.
Performs the accurate and timely completion of month-end and year-end close process.
Performs monthly review and analysis of the company’s general ledger accounts.
Prepares, processes and reviews journal entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
Takes the lead role in assisting branch/regional/department/executive managers with questions regarding financial statements, reporting and technical support.
Researches and interprets accounting policies and regulations and advises management to ensure compliance with GAAP.
Identifies and implements potential improvements to BSE’s internal controls.
Investigates and resolves audit findings, account discrepancies, and issues of non-compliance.
Assists leadership in mergers and acquisitions (due diligence, setup) and assists with the transaction and post-closing reconciliations.
Contributes to the development of new or amended accounting systems, programs, and procedures.
Non-essential Functions Assists Financial, Planning & Analysis team with compiling information for the annual budget.
Responsible for monthly and quarterly financial communication via the proper internal channels.
Leads with special projects as assigned.
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or other designate.
Qualifications Minimum of a four-year accounting, finance, or business administration degree.
Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting or related experience.
A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or similar designation is preferred.
Strong working knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint), Internet, Email and SAP software preferred.
Skills and Abilities Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication, and reading skills.
Ability to work with little or no supervision.
Strong organizational and stress management skills.
Strong business partner, able to collaborate with teams across the organization.
Excellent customer service skills include being competent, accurate, responsive, and engaged.
