5 hrs/week with working hours of 12:30-3:00pm Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
SUMMARY: Parents need and want support in their role of preparing their children for success in school.
The Literacy Preschool Program at Jefferson Elementary will provide that valuable and much needed support by offering preschool early literacy classes for parents and children birth through age 5 who have not entered kindergarten.
The Jefferson Literacy Preschool Program will be offered Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 1-2:30.
The 1-1/2 hour sessions will focus on early literacy and family engagement activities intended to build a strong literacy foundation for early learners.
Evidenced-based curriculum specifically designed for early learners will be implemented with a focus on phonological awareness, vocabulary development, and early reading skills.
Other topics that may be covered for parent education include: getting ready for kindergarten, brain development, social and emotional development, raising a reader, importance of sleep, nutrition, early literacy, and the parent’s role in school success.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (and other duties as assigned) Facilitate literacy sessions with parents and children.
Measure student and program success in collaboration with administration Participate in all mandatory training or training appropriate to the position as required by the district.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: B.
S.
degree in family and consumer science, child development, counseling, elementary education, early childhood or related field is required.
Experience in facilitating educational opportunities for young children.
