Position Description
Under supervision assists in the procurement, storage, and issuance of parts in a timely and cost effective manner to support the maintenance of department equipment.
Primary Responsibilities Responsible for the quality and accuracy of his/her own work.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Delivers and picks up parts, materials, and equipment from various agencies and businesses in a timely and efficient manner.
Transports vehicles to appropriate vendor location for repair purposes; Responsible for the daily inspection and cleaning (if needed) of the parts delivery vehicle.
Conducts transactions at the parts counter and updates inventory records.
Issues parts according to order forms; Researches and locates parts requested by mechanics; Deducts proper quantities from inventory records to ensure accuracy; Contacts vendors for urgently needed parts and arranges for pick up or delivery; Performs general data entry of parts and materials into the computer system; Assists in processing warranty claims; verifies if parts are under warranty by researching computer system, manuals and files.
Receives incoming items and updates inventory records.
Verifies quality and quantity received against order information; Stores parts and/or issues to appropriate personnel; Enters items and appropriate warranty period into computer inventory system; Researches discrepancies in inventory and makes adjustments as necessary.
Communicates courteously and professionally and maintains working relationships with others in carrying out job functions.
Regularly interacts with others in the work unit, the public, vendors or across departments to exchange basic fact information as requested or as necessary to perform job duties; Occasionally interacts with others in the work unit to exchange detailed and/or technical information where the ability to explain concepts is exercised.
Performs all job duties in compliance with safety guidelines and with an ongoing awareness of safety practices.
Knows and follows department and city rules as well as sound work and safety practices in order to accomplish the job objectives and avoid injury or loss; Wears proper protective equipment when policy requires or conditions indicate a need exists and utilizes proper body mechanics and ergonomics while performing work; When potentially unsafe conditions are observed makes efforts to avoid or correct them if they are controllable and draws them to the attention of the responsible supervisor or safety representative in a timely manner.
Performs general housekeeping duties to help ensure a clean and safe work environment.
Performs other duties and activities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: The job requires a high school diploma or its equivalent (G.
E.
D.
) and one year of previous delivery experience in the transportation, automotive, or heavy equipment field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
A valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement is required within the first six months of employment.
Knowledge, skills and abilities include: Knowledge of the general concepts relating to the mechanical systems of a wide range of automotive and diesel equipment; Knowledge of general shipping and receiving procedures and practices; Knowledge of central stock operations such as storing and issuing items; Skill in basic mathematical computation sufficient to maintain adequate inventory levels; Skill in written English sufficient to read manuals and write standard order forms and record pertinent information; Skill in performing computer data entry and operating general computer software such as Microsoft Word or Outlook; Skill in communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, vendors, the general public, etc.

Physical Demands Physical Demands & Working Conditions: Most work performed consists of driving a pickup truck and the remaining work is performed in an automotive shop environment.
Work is generally heavy and requires loading, unloading and moving parts and boxes of various weights.
Daily work often involves moving between buildings and rooms.
Approximately 50% of the time is spent driving to complete job duties, and driving in all types of weather conditions is required.
There is considerable attention to detail and deadlines.
The shop environment includes exposure to working conditions and hazards such as oil, grease, dirt, fumes, loud noise, moving mechanical parts, and chemicals.
Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing/listening, seeing/observing, repetitive motions.
Heavy Work: Exerting up to 75 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
