The City of Wahpeton, ND (pop.
7,943) is seeking a Municipal Court Clerk.
This position reports to the Municipal Judge and Finance Director and works approximately 25 hours per week.
This position is responsible for performing duties associated with case management activities of criminal, traffic or other cases before the Municipal Judge.
Position Minimum Requirements: High school diploma and associate degree, or equivalent, from a two-year college and two years legal secretarial experience with duties related to legal document processing, criminal court procedures or related business or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid driver’s license required.
Compensation: $17.
11 to $25.
69 per hour, DOQ.
This position is eligible for flexible scheduling in coordination with the court and municipal judge.

*CITY OF WAHPETON - JOB DESCRIPTION* Job Title: Municipal Clerk of Court Status: Non-Exempt Salary Range: 11 Approved by Council: PENDING *JOB SUMMARY* *Works under the general supervision of the Municipal Judge when performing administrative duties, other matters will be under the supervision of the Finance Director.
Performs a variety of administrative activities related to Municipal Court including case management of criminal, traffic or other cases from initial filing to final disposition.
* *ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES* The following duties are typical for this classification.
Other duties may arise and may be assigned as necessary by the Municipal Judge or Finance Director.
The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.
· Plans, organizes, assigns case numbers and monitors the preparation of the court calendar as directed by the Municipal Judge.
· Performs data entry of incoming documents, case proceedings, dispositions, including all necessary reporting of judgements and fingerprinting.
Attends all Municipal Court proceedings, processes court orders, notices, and reports in accordance with office routines and established procedures.
· Reviews and processes incoming documents to determine conformity with appropriate laws, rules, and court requirements.
Routes documents to the appropriate parties.
· Receives and records all fees, fines, bonds, restitution, or other receipts submitted to the Clerk of Municipal Court Office.
Performs collection activities for outstanding fines including preparation of orders to show cause and bench warrants.
Prepares a reconciliation report of fines/offender obligations outstanding on a monthly basis.
· Enters and queries information into the ND Courts System Odyssey File and Serve website.
Must be eligible to securely access computerized indices of criminal justice information including the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) databases.
· Receives, answers, and routes telephone calls to appropriate parties.
Provides assistance to the public in their requests for information that does not involve legal advice, confidentiality, or right-to-know laws.
· Implements court procedures and rules and provides courtroom assistance, as directed by the Municipal Judge or requested by the City Attorney’s Office.
Retrieves and organizes files for the Municipal Judge and City Attorney’s Office.
· Searches criminal, civil, traffic, and judgment records.
*EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE* *Associate degree from a two-year college and or two or more years of previous experience related to legal document processing, criminal court procedures and or administrative support as a legal secretary.
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
* *LICENSING REQUIREMENTS* · Valid driver’s license · Must be able to obtain and maintain Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) security license, and North Dakota Courts security clearances upon hire.
*SKILLS AND ABILITIES* · Must be dependable, self-motivated, have good logical judgement, excellent communication and be able to handle all types of situations.
· Display professionalism, organizational skills, time management skills and be able to multi-task.
· Technical abilities (Multi-line phone system, Utility billing software, MuniCode, Word, Excel, Camera Systems, Adobe, etc.
) · Ability to manage confidential matters with discretion.
· Ability to interpret common legal documents, rules and regulations.
· Work with a high level of accuracy and consistency including proofreading of documents received and prepared.
· Must exercise situational awareness and preparedness as a primary point of contact in a public service setting.
· Ability to communicate information effectively both verbally and in writing, to support organizational objectives, and to interact with all levels of personnel within the city in a positive and cooperative manner.
