Security Officer/Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) Position Details
The Security Officer/HUC is a combined role that performs both security and reception duties, establishing a presence and maintaining order to defend against security breach, and performing a variety of clerical duties to assist with the admission and discharge of patients.
This person welcomes patients and guests to the facility, providing them direction and assisting with their needs and questions.
The Security Officer/HUC contributes to quality and effective patient care by communicating information through the appropriate channels, growing in knowledge of basic medical terminology, and receiving and conveying messages in an appropriate and professional manner.
Additional duties of the Security Officer/HUC include but are not limited to:
Monitors the facility including entrances, waiting areas, parking lots, and patient care areas to maintain safety and security.
Responds to, controls, and oversees in-house calls for assistance by taking action and intervening to mitigate situations.
Responsible for de-escalating situations, acting as the liaison to notify appropriate staff and/or authorities as needed/in case of emergency.
Responsible for emergency communication; facilitates communication with patients, family members, visitors, nurses, providers, and other health care professionals as needed.
Responsible for onsite alarms and initiating emergency alerts.
Operates telephone console using a caring and professional manner to assist callers, answers questions, screening and transferring calls as necessary.
Receives and directs the general public to appropriate place or departmental personnel; provides general information regarding the facility and explains regulations relative to visiting hours, charges, payments, insurance coverages, etc.
Prepares admission forms and fulfills record keeping procedures via direct patient interviews or other information finding mechanisms as available.
Is responsible for a variety of data processing duties including data entry of admissions, entering demographic updates and collecting signatures.
Notifies appropriate staff if patients or visitors appear to be waiting for long periods of time.
Assists patients with wheelchairs and other needs to help them feel relaxed and comfortable.
Maintains confidentiality of information and privacy compliance.
What You Offer
Previous experience or training in security or dispatch is preferred.
Ability to react calmly and efficiently in emergency situations.
Knowledge of basic office procedures and human relations skills.
Demonstrate a high degree of commitment to customer service excellence.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
Work Schedule
Full-time, 60 hours per biweekly pay period.
8 or 12 hour shifts
8-hour shifts include a 7 days on, 7 days off schedule, 10pm-6:30am, every other weekend
12-hour shifts include 5 shifts per biweekly pay period, 7pm-7am, every 3rd weekend
