This is a full time benefitted position working 72 to 80 hours.
This position is a combination Unit Clerk and Nurse Aide working as needed to cover Unit Clerk and Nurse Aide needs on Patient Care Unit(Medical Surgical department).
Days of work are Sunday-Saturday.
Scheduled shifts are typically 0700-1530, 1500-2300, and 1700-2100 and per department needs, weekend and holiday work every third.
The Unit Clerk works in a team-based environment to perform clerical/receptionist duties and support the delivery of patient care by performing Nurse Assistant duties on the Patient Care and Family BirthPlace Units.
The Unit Clerk functions under the direction of the Unit Supervisor, Clinical Manager or Nurse.
Positon requires computer knowledge.
Duties include receptionist duties and unit projects.
Previous CNA experience and knowledge of medical Terminology is preferred.
Candidate must demonstrate willingness to float to alternate departments as needed.
Must be CNA or eligible for placement on Nurse Assistant Registry.
Responsibilities:
JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs clerical and patient care duties related to the admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.
Orders supplies and places items in their proper storage area.
Pages appropriate staff via current communication system.
Completes required annual competencies.
Communicates with other departments, team members and healthcare entities to coordinate appointments and transportation.
Receives visitors and answers the telephone.
Assists with the collection of data for reports and records information using computer systems and software that are relevant for the job.
Assembles patient information packets.
Provides Activitie of Daily living or patients of all ages and developmental levels, including but not limited to bathing, oral hygiene, back care, hair care, dressing, toileting and ambulation.
Takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height, blood pressure, oxygen saturation and intake-output measurements.
Answers patient call lights, anticipates patient's needs and participates in hourly rounding as assigned.
Assists in post-mortem care.
Transports patients to and from various departments.
Provides clean patient environment, unit and equipment and ensures that supplies are restocked at the end of each shift.
Establishes and maintains interpersonal relationships with patients, visitors and other hospital personnel, while assuring confidentiality of patient information.
Attends in-service education programs, as assigned, to learn new treatments, procedures, developmental skills, etc.
Collects and transports specimens to appropriate departments.
Provides activities for Swingbed patients and completes required documentation.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications:
Work requires a high school level of knowledge.
Must be able to follow oral or wirtten orders.
Must be certified as a Nurse Aide or have completed course work in a nursing or vocational program to satisfy requirements for placement on the ND Department of Health Nurse Assistant Registry.
Previous work experience as a Unit Clerk and medical terminology is preferred.
Preference for a minimum of six months experience as a nurse aide in an acute care health facility.
Time to reach competency on the job here is 2 - 4 weeks.
