Your Opportunity Stantec, is seeking a mid-level engineering professional to join our Midwest group.
This position will offer the right person significant opportunities for leadership and growth in the regional solid waste market.
The location of this role is in Fargo, North Dakota.
However, for the right candidate, there is opportunity for this position to be fulfilled remotely from another location within the Red River Valley region.
In this role, the candidate will focus on both technical work and business development.
Previous consulting or environmental engineering related experience is highly preferable.
Our solid waste group provides a wide range of professional consulting services to municipal, industrial, and commercial clients.
Our projects range from waste management planning and permitting to design and construction and environmental monitoring of waste management facilities (landfills, recycling facilities, transfer stations).
Our projects also include resource recovery endeavors (organic waste management, material recovery facilities, digestion, compost, land application, and waste to energy operations).
Projects can also include wastewater and stormwater management.
The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, embrace teamwork, and have the desire to grow and develop professionally.
This position will be involved in managing, performing, and supporting project work; developing business with public and private clients; and managing client relationships (seller / doer role).

Experience with general (non-solid waste) environmental regulations and civil engineering work is also a plus.
Your Key Responsibilities Work with a team of professionals to assist our clients on a wide variety of solid waste and environmental opportunities.
It is anticipated these may include, but are not limited to: o MSW, C&D, and Industrial Waste Landfills o Industrial by-products management o Landfill gas and LFG utilization (or other biogas management) o Leachate and wastewater management and treatment o Transfer stations and / or material recovery facilities o Solid Waste management strategy and planning o Sustainability and waste minimization studies o Organics management (including digestion, composting, or other management methods) o Waste diversion analysis and alternatives (including waste characterization studies) o Land application of industrial by-products o Environmental Services, Due Diligence, and regulatory compliance.
o Investigation/Remediation o Stormwater management and permitting Manage and lead technical work (i.
e.
engineering calculations, designs and reports) Provide QC review for technical work Draft and review proposals Assist with business planning and strategic growth initiatives to help us expand our list of valued clients and geographic footprint Play a significant role in new client development Work with multidisciplinary teams to undertake solid waste management and other infrastructure projects related to planning, design, and construction.
Prepare technical reports, concept designs, construction specifications, construction drawings, and permit applications for approvals.
Liaise with clients and sub-consultants and ensure that the project’s/client’s needs are met in a timely and effective manner.
Qualifications Your Capabilities and Credentials Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously Demonstrated ability related to preparing scope and fee estimates for project work Demonstrated technical ability related to engineering design, permit applications, reports, etc.
Ability to travel as needed for team meetings, client consultations, on-site inspections, business development activities, etc.
Occasional overnight travel will be required.
Excellent writing and verbal communication skills with attention to detail; time management skills.
Excellent client relation skills and be able to coordinate effectively with team members.
Proficient in the use of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Familiarity with AutoCAD, HELP modeling, and HydroCAD software will be an asset.
Valid driver’s license.
Your Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering or related field Minimum of five (5) years of previous experience in an engineering consulting environment Preferable three (3) years of project management experience coordinating and managing tasks and projects and interacting with clients and environmental regulatory agency contacts.
Professional registration (PE), or ability to obtain within 6 months Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time.
Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
