Job Duties
The primary emphasis of the position is to independently perform field forestry tasks, including but not limited to an emphasis in forest inventory in addition to timber sale development, regeneration checks, road projects, GPS locating, GIS and computer data entry and summarization.
Work Location
All field work will take place on tax-forfeited forest lands within Becker County, MN.
Position is based out of Natural Resources Management Department office in Detroit Lakes, MN.
Vehicles for travel to field locations and all equipment required for data collection will be provided.
Special Skills
The ability to navigate and work independently on forested lands throughout the county.
The applicant mus be physically able to perform job duties in the field, including use of forestry field equipment (compass, prism, clinometer), traversing rugged wooded terrain and forest lowlands, being exposed to insects, forest plants, and animals in potentially adverse weather and environmental conditions.
Applicant must have to identify trees and basic forest plants of MN.
Schedule and Salary
Hourly rates will be $19.
00 - $20.
00 per hour; Depending on qualifications.
Duration of project is generally late May through mid-late August; maximum of 67 days.
Work week is Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week, workday is 8:00 am - 4:30 pm or as arranged.
Qualifications
Applicant must have completed a minimum of one year of Forestry/Natural Resources education or related studies in a forestry program.
Preference will be given to individuals who are a current student at a SAF accredited school, will be fulfilling academic requirement, and have completed Dendrology, Forest Inventory, or Measurements and GIS, as well as any of the following: Silviculture, Forest Soils, or Surveying.
Possession of a valid driver's license is required.
