Position Description
Fargo Cass Public Health is looking for a dependable, organized, and team-oriented individual to join our staff.
This individual will work in our Employee Health Department as well as our clinic lab at Fargo Cass Public Health.
Under general supervision, performs phlebotomy, testing and analysis of various samples then prepares, interprets and disseminates results to appropriate personnel.
Primary Responsibilities The position is responsible for the quality and accuracy of his/her own work.
Work is performed independently under general supervision.
Responsible for the maintenance and safe operation of laboratory equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Communicates courteously and professionally and maintains working relationships with others in carrying out job functions.
Frequently interacts with others in the work unit, the public, vendors or across departments to exchange detailed and/or technical information; Interaction with the public, vendors/ community partners or across departments occasionally includes negotiations involving convincing the other party to do something to achieve a basic work related objective; Communications include responsibility for maintaining key working relationships for the public health function.
Respond to Public Health Emergencies Has a working knowledge of the National Management System for emergency preparedness and has completed the courses required for their job.
Will fulfill roles within the Department's Emergency Operations Plan as determined by Emergency Preparedness and Management staff.
During an actual emergency, will be accessible 24/7 with an established family contingency plan in place.
Performs all job duties in compliance with safety guidelines and with an ongoing awareness of safety practices.
Knows and follows department and city rules as well as sound work and safety practices in order to accomplish the job objectives and avoid injury or loss; Wears proper protective equipment when policy requires or conditions indicate a need exists and utilizes proper body mechanics and ergonomics while performing work; When potentially unsafe conditions are observed makes efforts to avoid or correct them if they are controllable and draws them to the attention of the responsible supervisor or safety representative in a timely manner.
Performs diagnostic lab tests, analyzes results and provides data to appropriate personnel.
Collects clinical specimens.
Collects environmental specimens.
Reports results to appropriate personnel.
Collaborate with the Medical Technologist to maintain various records and prepares reports.
Prepares documentation of lab results.
Compiles statistics on various tests.
Works with the Medical Technologist to monitors and maintains equipment and inventory.
Monitors equipment and arranges for preventative maintenance; Performs cleaning and sterilizing according to standard procedures.
Performs other duties and activities as required.
Special Assignment – Occupational Health Assignments in addition to previously listed (1-7) essential duties and responsibilities Special Assignment Scope Schedules employee appointments; Performs employee intake and reports status to the Medical Provider Completes necessary employee chart forms and referrals Maintains electronic health records for clients Maintains employee confidentiality following HIPAA guidelines; Stocks and maintains exam rooms Assists with rooming clients, collecting vital signs, and performing ancillary screenings under the direction of the Medical Provider.
Collects specimens and reports results to the Medical Provider.
Provide support to the Women’s Way Program under the direction of the Case Manager.
Minimum Qualifications The job requires an associate's degree in medical lab technology, chemistry or a closely related field.
A valid Clinical Laboratory Technician/ Medical Laboratory Technician North Dakota license is required for the clinical component of this job.
A valid driver's license is also required.
Knowledge, skills and ability include: Knowledge of the principles and concepts of chemistry and mathematics.
Knowledge of standard laboratory procedures and techniques.
Knowledge of environmental and clinical standards and related testing under various regulations Knowledge of general office practices and procedures.
Skill in effective communication and interpersonal relations as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors and the general public.
Skill in laboratory techniques and analysis.
Skill in phlebotomy (clinical component).
Skill in written English sufficient to read and interpret complex policies, regulations, procedures and technical information and reports.
Physical Demands Most work is performed in a normal clinic medical lab environment.
There is considerable attention to detail and deadlines.
Extensive use of microscopes and computers is required as well as standard lab and office equipment.
Work is generally light involving lifting of lab supplies, unpacking and storing lab supplies and delivering supplies to nurses' stations.
Daily work often involves moving between buildings and rooms.
In dealing with blood samples and lab chemicals, there may be exposure to bloodborne pathogens and hazardous chemicals.
Activities include stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing/listening, seeing/observing, and repetitive motions.
Light Work: Physical demands are normally those associated with light work: exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
