Position Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for utilizing the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes/planning, implementation and evaluation) to provide individualized nursing care to clients.
Collaborates with client and family, other inter-disciplinary colleagues, including providers, to plan, implement and evaluate care.
Demonstrates competency and practices within the full scope of nursing expertise/knowledge and utilizes appropriate age and population specific standards as designated in their assigned clinical setting.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for the coordination of care, client assessment, client education and various other nursing interventions.
Provides assessment, care planning, training of nursing tasks, and monitoring quality of care clients receiving services by the agency
Assures that direct service providers follow directives found in the individual service plan
May delegate appropriate tasks to licensed and unlicensed personnel that are within the job descriptions, skills, client care needs, and the competence level of the delegate.
Provides adequate assistance and support to delegates to ensure safe, reliable administration of client care and resolution of care and service concerns.
Informs the physician and other personnel of changes in the client's needs or service requests.
Teaches, supervises, and counsels direct service providers, client and/or family members regarding the disease process, self-care techniques, prevention strategies, and other related problems of the client.
Promotes client/family independence.
Requisition and management of equipment and supplies appropriate to care
Practice of standard infection control precautions
Assigns, supervises, and demonstrates appropriate procedures as necessary to direct service providers as required by policy and state regulations
Maintains adequate and timely records and reports of evaluation data, interventions, and client's response to interventions
Evaluates the effectiveness and outcomes of care provided
Participates in agency's quality management program measures
Provides in-service training programs as appropriate
Performs other related functions as required
Attends and participates in staff education and agency committee meetings as appropriate
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Licensure:
Active North Dakota RN licensure in good standing
Current BLS for Healthcare Providers
Experience:
One (1) year of experience as a professional nurse within the last three years, with one (1) year of home care experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge and skill in current nursing practice.
Ability to teach and assess the competency of LPNs, and unlicensed personnel
Knowledge of the concept of interdisciplinary teams
Knowledge of the development of individual service plans for client care and the ability to participate in them
Ability to recognize the needs and concerns of people, and to maintain constructive working relationships in dealing with them
Ability to supervise
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Additional Requirements:
Special certification as appropriate
Valid, current state driver's license
Access to a reliable transportation
Exposure/Risk Category: OSHA:
Tasks involve occupational exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue.
