The technologist operates diagnostic imaging equipment to produce images that assist physicians in the treatment and diagnosis of patients.
*Essential Duties and Responsibilities*
* Performing imaging procedures that meet the quality expectations of the patient, referring physician, and radiologist.
* Following the orders of the referring physician and protocols specified by the radiologist.
* Preparing and administering radiopharmaceuticals as prescribed by the physician order.
* Viewing images to ensure quality of pictures and transferring images to the Radiologist for interpretation and verifying the images and patient information arrived correctly.
* Explaining medical procedures to patients and answering any questions they may have.
* Following safety procedures to protect the patients and themselves from unnecessary radiation exposure.
* Monitoring and observing any unusual reactions patients may have to drugs.
* Maintaining detailed procedural records.
* Complying with safety and quality procedures and initiatives by strictly following safety policies, rules and safe work methods, making suggestions to support continuous improvements in safety, promptly correcting or reporting safety hazards or unsafe conditions, and promptly reporting injuries for timely diagnoses and medical treatment.
In addition to providing patient care, mobile nuclear medicine technologists may drive the mobile unit to customer locations.
In these situations the technologist is responsible for the maintenance of the truck which includes; checking and maintaining the fire extinguishers, patient lift, smoke detectors and emergency lighting and scheduling and documenting preventive maintenance as necessary.
Technologists inspect the truck before and after each trip and submit a report indicating truck conditions.
Technologists maintain driver logs according to DOT regulations.
*Education and/or Experience*
* Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Exceptional interpersonal and relationship management, analytical, organizational, empathy, critical thinking and analytical skills.
* Must be able to multi-task while maintaining great patient care as well as superior quality of exams in a fast-paced environment.
* A strong accuracy and detail orientation.
* Physical stamina
* The ability to work well independently with limited direct supervision.
* PC proficiency to access job related internet websites, review on-line documentation and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products.
*Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Testing*
* CNMT or ARRT, CPR certified; CDL (as dictated by the route and unit), mandatory education, TB
* Advanced certification in modality must be obtained with 18 months of hire.
