Job Summary This position exists to enforce State and Federal laws, rules and regulations governing the operation of motor carriers, commercial vehicle operations and school bus operations in the State of Minnesota; to audit carrier and shipper records, investigate complaints of alleged violations and education, train, and advise carriers, shippers, other law enforcement agencies and the general public regarding motor carrier regulations.
This position also exists to protect the general public from illegal motor carrier practices and from dangers of life and property resulting from failure to comply with motor carrier laws, rule and regulations under the authority of Minnesota Statute 299D.

The mission of the State Patrol Law Compliance Representative II is to provide for the safe and efficient movement of commercial motor vehicles on Minnesota's roadways through education, assistance, and enforcement.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Requires basic computer/data entry skills using word processing and spreadsheet software to generate documents and records and transmit the information electronically to other locations and personnel.
Requires excellent interpersonal skills with co-workers and the public, including the ability to conduct interviews with commercial vehicle drivers to determine compliance with regulations.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license with the ability to travel, with overnight stays, as required, throughout the state of MN.
Successful applicant must have ability to pass and maintain technical certification, with appropriate training, in areas related to commercial vehicle safety regulations (US Department of Transportation - North American Standards certification).
Analytical skills and ability to interpret and apply laws, rules, and regulations that will allow the successful applicant to work independently without direct supervision.
Successful applicant must be physically capable of inspecting commercial motor vehicles outside in all weather conditions all year long and be able to lift and carry 40-pound wheel scales.
Preferred Qualifications Technical knowledge relating to the operation and mechanical maintenance of commercial motor vehicles.
Previous knowledge and experience in the areas of regulatory compliance and commercial vehicle safety.
Ability to work cooperatively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and underserved communities.
Possess an associate or bachelor's degree in a law enforcement or commercial transportation field.
Physical Requirements Medium: Requires occasionally moving and transporting 50-pound items and frequently moving and transporting objects such as heavy tools and heavy file boxes.
The job may require positioning self to move to a significant degree across rough terrain or may involve maintaining a stationary position for an extended period.
