Position Information:
The Sheila and Robert Challey Institute for Global Innovation and Growth invites applications for the position of Media Relations Specialist.
We seek candidates who have strong oral and written communication skills, an ability and interest in preparing, promoting, and tracking media relations, an understanding of policy and economic implications, and an interest in the Challey Institute’s vision of identifying bottom up solutions aimed at expanding opportunity and flourishing.
Job Responsibilities:
Advance local, state, and national media awareness of new and existing research
Write and facilitate PR Newswire press releases
Promote research and experts to local, state, and national broadcasts and podcasts
Enhance event awareness and participation by connecting with local, state, and national media
Monitor and track media relations
Collaborate with researchers to engage in public writing to amplify their research and its implications
Identify public writing and other opportunities (e.
g.
op-eds) and place them
Train researchers in writing op-eds, interviewing, public speaking, and other media relations
Help researchers develop personal media plans
Translate technical economic concepts into content that is engaging and understandable to a broad public audience
Work with researchers to make the tie between policies and economic outcomes clear to public audiences
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Economics
Demonstrated written and oral communication skills
Interest in advancing the vision and mission of the Challey Institute
Demonstrated time management skills
Experience with media relations for an academic research institute/center
Proficiency in using MS Office Suite, web development, and other business software
Demonstrated record of success in placing op-eds and other products in high-profile media outlets
5 years of experience in Media Relations
Preferred Qualifications:
9+ years of experience in Media Relations
