Job Summary The General Repair Worker position performs various semi-skilled/skilled installations and repairs in and around all Housing and Residential Life buildings/grounds.
This position assists all trades persons, and at times, performs their responsibilities.
The General Repair Worker position is considered an essential position during weather and other emergency periods as declared by the Commissioner of Employee Relations or the University President.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Complete installations and repairs to facilities at University Residence Halls via the work order system.
This includes repairs, replacements, and installations to blinds, hinges, closets, doors, furtniture, flooring, ceiling tiles, flooring, window screens, etc.
Perform trade responsibilities in and around residence halls.
Operate equipment, tools and work with materials in a safe and proper manner.
This includes assisting carpenters, painters, plumbers, electricians, engineers, mechanics, etc.
with large projects.
Assist other segments of the University in emergency situations which requires additional personnel so that immediate needs of the University are met.
Cut keys for the University lock and key system, including work on doors, which require the usage of lock boring equipment, hinge templates and electric planning equipment so that doors are installed as per industry standards and are freely operating.
Install and repair carpet, ceramic, quarry, and composition tile, vinyl sheet goods, rubber and vinyl cove base and stair tread materials in University facilities.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Knowledge of general methods and practices of a variety of trade areas (e.
g.
mechanics, masonry, welding, electrical, plumbing and carpentry) sufficient to assist licensed trades workers and to repair machinery, tools and facilities in a timely and safe manner.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety measures related to trades work sufficient to safely and efficiently perform the job duties.
Ability to safely use hand and power hand tools.
Ability to safely operate and maintain trucks, tractors, and other ground and road maintenance equipment.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to provide work instructions to unskilled helpers.
Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting, carrying and bending.
Ability to pass a background check in accordance with the Kari Koskenin Background Check Act.
Ability to pass a driving record check to operate University vehicles.
Preferred Qualifications Experience in cutting keys, assembling locks and performing lock changes.
Ability to work effectively and professionally with diverse student and staff population.
Commercial based plumbing experience.
Experience with HVAC systems.
Physical Requirements Frequent lifting, carrying and bending.
Utilization of hand and power hand tools.
Operation of trucks, tractors, and other ground and road maintenance equipment.
Additional Requirements The successful candidate must be able to lawfully accept employment in the United States by the day employment begins.
