Apprentice Electricians Primary Job Function: The apprentice assists electricians by performing assigned tasks and material handling under the direct supervision of an assigned electrician.
Keeps all materials, tools, and equipment in an orderly fashion, maintains a clean work area at all times, demonstrates safe work habits, and exhibits proper care for tools and equipment.
Performs skilled duties related to the installation and maintenance of electrical power line systems and equipment along with electrical substation construction and maintenance.

• Reports to assigned job site location on time, as directed.
• Maintains and properly stores gloves, sleeves, tools, materials, and equipment.
• Loads, hauls, and unloads poles properly.
• Demonstrates proper use and safe handling of tools, equipment, and materials.
• Organizes materials and tools in order to maintain clean and neat work areas.
• Digs, frames, and sets wood distribution poles.
• Mounts and installs assigned hardware (i.
e.
poles, wires, strapping, etc.
as directed).
• Identifies pole line hardware accurately for installation.
• Able to quickly learn pole climbing techniques that will ensure timely installations.
• Able to use two handed tools/equipment (i.
e.
cable cutters, drills, compression tools, jack hammers, etc.
).
• Uses handlines, blocks, and slings properly.
• Performs work at various heights, up to 90'; from ladders, bucket trucks/aerial lifts, catwalks, and/or other designated safe work areas.
• Works in restrictive/tight areas (i.
e.
switchgear rooms, utility cabinets, utility tunnels, vaults, etc.
).
• Able to dig trenches, tamping poles; either by use of hand tools or equipment.
• Reads and understands labels, job site maps/directions, instruction manuals, and written instructions accurately.
• Able to acquire/maintain personal hand tools per Company policy.
• Has reliable transportation.
• Able to operate bucket truck.
• Understands basic math.
• Understands verbal instructions and heeds warnings.
• Required to attend electrical line apprenticeship classes and functions.
• Maintains passing grades during the apprenticeship program.
• Possess or able to secure a Class A CDL Working Conditions: • May require working in all weather elements (heat, cold, rain, snow, etc.
) depending on job location and/or time of year.
• Must be able to utilize construction site sanitary facilities (port-o-lets).
• Must have required hand tools at all times while at work site (waist tool belts can weigh up to 30 lbs.
).
• Must be able to work from all ladder types (i.
e.
step ladders up to 14', "A" frame ladders, and extension ladders).
Must be able to independently carry and relocate 12' stepladder.
(Note: The combination of the employee's personal weight plus the weight of the employee's personal tools cannot exceed weight limits of ladder; class 1 - 250 lbs.
, class 1A - 300 lbs.
• Must wear personal protective equipment (i.
e.
hard hat, safety glasses, safety harness, etc.
) as required.
• Must be able to work scheduled hours as well as overtime, as required, on short notice.
• Must be able to work in noisy environments.
• Must be able to remain calm in times of heightened emotional situations.
• Must work well with others as a member of a team to complete tasks.
• Must have knowledge of first aid, CPR certification, and pole top rescue.
• This position is restricted from working on energized circuits or in/with energized parts.
Physical requirements: • Ability to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull, and reach overhead.
• Ability to independently lift work loads of up to 51 lbs.
• Repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers.
• Ability to climb ladders of all types.
• Possess good vision/hearing (normal or corrected).
• Ability to work while constantly moving.
• Ability to reach and stretch to position equipment, poles, etc.
, while maintaining balance.
• Ability to use both hands simultaneously for tying knots and for proper use of power equipment.
• Works with heavy material at fairly regular intervals, both on poles and on the ground.
Compensation: Compensation package is dependent upon qualifications and experience Must possess current valid driver license and pass pre-employment drug testing and background check.
