*SUMMARY:*
The purpose of the Accounting Technician (Auditor/Treasurer's Office) is to perform general accounting, administration and technical support while assisting the Auditor/Treasurer and the Deputy Auditor/Treasurer in the daily operations of the department.
The accounting technician also ensures activities are performed in accordance with state statutes and departmental policies.
*ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:* * Perform a wide variety of administrative and clerical duties with a focus on financial items.
* Utilize various computer software programs to perform the functions of word processing, excel, and general data entry.
Will also utilize various applications from the AS400 to include property tax, Integrated Financial Systems (IFS) and Cash Drawer System.
* Prepare reports from IFS as requested on a monthly basis.
* Manage Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
* Reconciliation of bank statements on a monthly basis.
* Assist with daily balancing of monies and receipts collected.
* Working within several computer programs, operating 10-key calculator, fax machine, copier, and scanner.
* Ability to read and interpret legal descriptions.
* Provide assistance in the collection of current and delinquent taxes and post to tax system.
* Assist customers with questions relating to taxes, assessments and property.
* Complete the training necessary to become a Passport Acceptance Agent.
* Assist with all aspects of the election process, including becoming an election judge and attend required training conferences.
* Assist with preparation of Commissioner and auditor billings and processing of all for payment within the IFS system.
* Interacts and communicates with a variety of individuals to include co-workers, taxpayers and other county personnel.
Assist general public at the counter and on the phone.
* Will be crossed trained on some jobs performed by staff members and assist in duties as directed by the department head.
* Answering multi-line phones and taking messages.
*MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:* * Associates degree in accounting or four years of related job experience involving a combination of clerical and/or bookkeeping responsibilities.
* Ability to work independently and respond quickly to situations when the need arises.
* Demonstrate a willingness to learn the functions of the Auditor/Treasurer Office and adapt to ongoing changes.
* Ability to interpret and follow Minnesota Statues and policy.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Strong mathematical skills.
* Self-directed learner able to work independently and as a team while managing multiple priorities.
* Requires use of personal computer, including word processing and database programs, 10-key calculator, multi-line telephone, fax and copy machine.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word and advanced Excel ability.
Ability to learn SVRS, DocuPro, AS400 tax system, Integrated Financial System, Cash Drawer System, etc.
* Must possess the ability to apply detailed and critical thinking to projects.
* A positive attitude and genuine interest in people are necessary.
* The ability to communicate clearly, listen carefully and perform tasks correctly with efficiency and accuracy is required.
* Must be organized and focused with the ability to multi-task while being interrupted in the pursuit of daily assignments.
* Excellent customer service skills.
*PHYSICAL DEMANDS:* * Work is performed predominantly in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.
* Frequently required to stand, walk and sit, talk or hear-both in person and by telephone, for unspecified amounts of time.
* Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, use hands to finger or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms.
* Specific vision abilities required include prolonged close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
* Occasional lifting and/or moving 35 lbs.
*HOURS:* * This is a full-time county position, working 40 hours per week during normal business hours from 8:00 am-5:00 pm, Monday thru Friday.
* Some evening and weekend hours as needed, esp.
during elections.
* Occasional overnight travel may be required for trainings.
* This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
