Overview: The primary responsibilities of the Payroll & ESOP Specialist include daily operations of payroll services and the Employee Stock Ownership Plan for the entire Scheels Corporation.
This will include developing expert payroll and retirement plan knowledge to ensure multi-state and federal regulations are in compliance.
Responsibilities: Complete semi-monthly payroll processing and balancing for Scheels Campus to include: Accurate and complete time-card processing Process deductions and benefits accurately and timely Prepare payroll and benefits related journal entries to be posted to the accounting system Prepare and balance period-end reports Maintain accurate employee records for current employees to include: FLSA assignments PTO balances W-4 Information Direct Deposit Information Data entry of all new hire payroll information Process terminations ensuring the accuracy for the final earnings payout Complete employment verifications in a timely manner Generate, balance and submit monthly/quarterly/annual state and federal tax and benefit information for all locations to include: Generate and file Form 941 Federal Unemployment payments and annual filing of Form 940 Multi-State Unemployment payments and filing Multi-State Withholding payments and filing Generate, balance, distribute and submit annual W-2 forms for all locations Research changes in tax and deduction laws that apply to the payroll process Provide technical expertise, information and assistance in all matters related to the payroll system Research and develop payroll processing best practices for all Scheels locations Generate enthusiasm, promote, and educate Scheels associates on employee ownership Audit ESOP benefit records to ensure accuracy and consistency of data within the Scheels payroll systems Work with ESOP Third Party Administrator to update information for both new hires and year-end statements Verify ESOP statements and administer ESOP distribution payments for all terminated/retired participants Complete ESOP annual census and provide support for eligibility, including verification of accuracy Ensure compliance with DOL and IRS requirements for ESOP retirement plan Enter new data and make corrections/updates to existing ESOP database Manage administrative process for ESOP plan audit to ensure timely preparation in advance of audit as well as respond to auditor requests.
Assist with review of all related documents including 5500s.

Physical Requirements/Lifting Requirements: Must be able to sit, stand, bend at the waist, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, walk, push/pull, lift, talk, and hear with or without reasonable accommodation Sedentary work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
