Under limited supervision, the Public Works Assistant acts as the primary point of contact and provides administrative support to the Public Works department.
Examples Of Duties
Welcomes customers and visitors; determines the nature of their visit; provides information or directs visitors to the appropriate staff member for assistance.
Receives, sorts, and routes mail; maintains publications.
Develops, monitors, and maintains office procedures, forms, applications, databases, spreadsheets, records and filing systems.
Compiles and posts work orders; distributes labor hours and equipment.
Participates in the billing process; receipts invoices for incoming funds.
Maintains and orders office supplies.
Maintains office equipment; contacts vendors for maintenance and repairs.
Maintains brochure and bulletin board displays.
Performs research regarding inquiries from City staff or other originators.
Performs photocopying and collating.

Participates in the release and dissemination of reports and record information to various government agencies or private entities.
Integrating information into OPW Fuel System for creating fuel fobs, creating Fuel Usage Reports from OPW Data System,
Assists with the administration of the asset management system.

Tracks and updates fixed assets for Public Works Department.
Coordinates, monitors and distributes hydrant meters/temp residential meters.
Coordinates, monitors water salesman program.
Utilizes Black Mountain for adding fixed assets ? maintains asset log sheets.
Works safely, follows safe work practices, and identifies and reports unsafe work conditions.
Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Typical Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Two years of experience in administrative staff support.
Ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with peers, superiors, other City departments, vendors, contractors, external government agencies and organizations.
Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing.
Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, etc); basic computer skills.
