Under the direction of the Chief of Police, performs supervisory and administrative duties specifically related to the patrol operational oversight of the University Police unit.
These duties include investigative duties normally assigned to a detective position, coordination of emergency preparedness and response planning, and supervisory duties of sworn law enforcement officers and non-sworn public safety officers.
Work Schedule: Typical work schedule during regular NDSU Business Hours M - F.
After hours and emergency response will be necessary in certain circumstances.
Advertised Salary: $90,000+ Commensurate with Experience Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree.
Five years of law enforcement experience may be substituted for the college requirement.
Three years of direct supervision of two or more full time Police Officers in a law enforcement setting.
Three years of experience working in law enforcement with demonstrated achievement of additional responsibilities in specialized areas such as investigations and/or tactical operations.
Demonstrated knowledge of the Clery Act, Title IX, and the Violence Against Women Act.
Must have left previous law enforcement employment in good standing.
North Dakota Peace Officer License (POST Board) or ability to license after appointment, valid driver’s license.
Must be able to render credible testimony in the court of law.
Must not be subject to the restrictions or prohibitions as set forth by the Lautenberg Amendment of the Gun Control Act of 1968.
Knowledge of rules, procedures, and methods related to the duties which comprise the work associated with law enforcement.
As a part of the post offer/pre-hire, selected candidate must pass a physical exam to include vision, corrected to 20/40, and hearing test, take a psychological assessment with results satisfactory to NDSU, and submit to and successfully pass a background check.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree Documented police leadership training.
Police administration experience with a demonstrated pattern of growth in responsibilities.
Law Enforcement experience in a university setting or as a School Resource Officer.
Demonstrated presentation and public speaking skills.
