Job Summary/Basic Function
The Department of Education at Concordia College invites applications for a full-time, tenure—eligible Assistant or Associate Professor of Literacy Education to begin the 2024-2025 academic year.
We seek an engaged teacher educator and scholar with an interest in literacy and equity, K-12 literacy curriculum and instruction, and teacher preparation.
Successful candidates will aspire to be part of a diverse community that affirms an abundance of identities, experiences, and perspectives in order to imagine, examine, and implement possibilities for individual and communal thriving both inside and outside of the Department of Education.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach a range of literacy/language arts methods courses including Teaching Language Arts in the Elementary Classroom, Children’s Literature, and Literacy Across the Secondary Curriculum.
Teach other undergraduate and graduate courses in the Education department as needed based on qualifications & interest
Supervise clinical experiences including methods and student teaching
Advise and mentor pre-service teachers
Mentor graduate students’ theses & capstone projects
Engage in scholarly activity & research
Provide service to the Education department, college and profession
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum of 3 years experience as teacher of record in a K-6 school
Ability to teach Elementary Literacy and Language Arts methods courses
Doctorate in Literacy Education or closely related field
Potential for Scholarly Productivity (Assistant rank) or Evidence of Scholarly
Productivity (Associate rank)
Experience and professional commitment to serving students from diverse
intersecting social identities
Commitment to the college’s mission and liberal arts goals
Preferred Qualifications
Experience teaching literacy or ELA in Grades 7-12
Experience with leadership or professional development of teachers related to literacy education (i.
e.
Literacy Coach) or experience as a Reading Interventionist/Literacy Specialist
Experience teaching at the college level
Ability to develop literacy-focused partnerships with K-12 schools and/or community organizations
