Position Title STARTALK 2024 Language Teaching Staff (Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Russian) Position Type CLV Seasonal - Academic Year Employment Status Seasonal Number of Months 7 General Employment Period February-September 2024 General Work Schedule (days of week) February-June: 2 hours/week, evenings, online (plus prep) -June 16-28, 2024: 1-day orientation on June 16; then Monday-Friday 9:00 am-3:00 pm (plus prep), in person -July-September 2024: 2 hours/week, evenings, online (plus prep) General shift hours -February-June 2024: evenings -June 2024: 9:00 am-3:00 pm (plus prep) -July-September 2024: evenings Minimum Salary $30/teaching hour (includes prep time) for Cultural Assistant, $32/hour for Language Teacher, $40/hour for Instructional Lead Job Summary/Basic Function The mission of Concordia Language Villages is to inspire courageous global citizens through language and cultural immersion.
Through a grant from STARTALK, Concordia Language Villages seeks Instructional Leads, Language Teachers & Cultural Assistants in Arabic, Chinese, Korean and Russian.
General Expectations of All Staff: A.
Be familiar with and abide by Concordia Language Villages’ Personnel Policies.
B.
Promote the health, safety, and well-being of all staff members and participants.
C.
Develop and maintain collegial relationships among all staff, including support staff, for a productive working atmosphere at the Village that promotes the mission of the Language Villages.
D.
Speak the target language with participants and staff members as much as possible.
INSTRUCTIONAL LEAD: -Develop and implement a linguistically and culturally appropriate learner-centered program, in consultation with the Program Director.
-Hire, orient and supervise Language Teacher and Cultural Assistant.
-Design and implement the educational curriculum, including assessment.
-Teach in person and online.
-Participate in staff orientation, student orientation & staff meetings.
-Assist the Program Director in the writing of a final report for the program.
-Other duties as assigned by Program Director.
LANGUAGE TEACHER: -Under the direction of the Instructional Lead, plan, teach and assess language classes and activities, in person and online.
-Assist the Instructional Lead in the development of curriculum & assessments.
-Assist with other aspects of the program, including cultural presentations and activity periods.
-Participate in staff orientation, student orientation & staff meetings.
-Other duties as assigned by Program Director.
CULTURAL ASSISTANT: -Participate in all aspects of the program, including activity periods and classes.
Teach or assist as directed.
-Participate in staff orientation, student orientation & staff meetings.
-Other duties as assigned by Program Director.
Minimum Qualifications INSTRUCTIONAL LEAD: -Bachelor’s degree (B.

) or international equivalent -Previous experience with Concordia Language Villages or other experiential learning -Conversational and written proficiency in the target language -Skills in teaching the target language & culture -Work experience with middle-school & high-school students -Strong personnel and program management skills -Computer skills -Ability to communicate effectively with parents and schools LANGUAGE TEACHER: -Bachelor’s degree (B.

) or international equivalent -Intermediate or higher proficiency in the target language, both conversational and written -Experience teaching the target language and culture -Work experience with middle-school & high-school students CULTURAL ASSISTANT: -Completion of of at least one year in college/university/post-secondary school, at fully enrolled status -Completion of intermediate level or higher of language study (typically, second or third-year coursework at the university level) -Experience working with children and adolescents -Skills in the target culture(s)(e.
