Yes Job Summary/Basic Function Concordia College, Moorhead, MN, invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position in Music Education (with an emphasis in instrumental music) to coordinate our music education graduate program and teach in the music and education departments starting August 2024.
Minimum qualifications: the successful candidate will have at least 5 years of K-12 teaching experience, a doctorate in Music Education (ABD considered), and demonstrated eagerness and ability to recruit and work with graduate students.
Preferred qualifications: completed doctorate, successful college teaching experience, prior leadership in a graduate program.
This position represents an expansion of our music education faculty, joining a team of colleagues to nurture undergraduate and graduate music education students.
Primary responsibilities include coordinating our Master of Music program in music education (including recruiting and advising), teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in music education, and teaching one course in the education department, with possible additional duties in alignment with the candidate’s interests and expertise, such as ensemble conducting, studio teaching, or leading experiences in global music or music production.
The department is especially interested in candidates who can help broaden our current offerings.
The committee seeks candidates whose mindset and values are congruent with a liberal arts approach to teaching and learning and who will contribute to redefining music education for the 21st Century.

Concordia College is NASM accredited, and the Music Department is the largest single department on campus, with 40 faculty and more than 1/4 of all undergraduates participating in vocal and instrumental lessons, ensembles, and music courses.
The department maintains an excellent reputation throughout the region, with over 150 undergraduates majoring in music (music education, composition, or performance), many of whom pursue careers in K-12 teaching, while others pursue graduate school and/or careers in performing or creative activity.
The employment rate for music education graduates pursuing positions in the field is extremely high, and many graduates go on to achieve graduate degrees at leading national institutions.
Launched in 2022, our new Master of Music in Music Education offers working educators the opportunity to earn a graduate degree while staying fully employed, earning the majority of credits in two summers with some online coursework and thesis research/writing during the school year.
Concordia’s growing graduate program also includes degree offerings in Nutrition and Dietetics, World Languages, Education, and Management Science.
