Description & Details: NDSU Extension and the Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (ABEN) Department are seeking a highly motivated individual for a 12-month, tenure track faculty position with responsibilities for extension (90%) and applied research (10%) in water engineering and management.
This position is funded by NDSU Extension and is housed in the NDSU ABEN Department in Fargo.
The successful applicant will utilize traditional and emerging communication platforms and techniques to develop a nationally recognized Extension and applied research program and deliver programs to producers and stakeholders in North Dakota and the upper Great Plains.
The successful applicant will collaborate with researchers, Extension personnel, producers, commodity groups, agencies, industrial partners, and others as appropriate.
Travel is expected.
Responsibilities include the development of and leadership for statewide educational programs in water-related topics such as the following: Drainage including surface and subsurface systems (design, selection, maintenance, and operation for farm fields and farmsteads, etc.
) Water supply including wells, pumps, rural and private water systems, and surface water development (construction, maintenance, water quality, equipment, treatment, pressure tanks, etc.
) Irrigation equipment (selection, maintenance, operation, design, energy requirements, etc.
); water management (irrigation scheduling, chemigation, water uniformity, etc.
); and development (water quality, suitable soils, economics, equipment selection, etc.
) Septic and wastewater systems (design, equipment, construction, maintenance, management, etc.
) Water quality (drinking, drainage, irrigation, animal consumption, etc.

Minimum Qualifications: Ph.
D.
in agricultural engineering or a related field with at least one degree in an engineering discipline.
Ability to work effectively with university faculty and staff, producers, commodity groups, and other stakeholders.
Ability to develop an effective Extension program in water-related topics.
Ability to develop an applied research program in water-related topics.
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Availability and willingness to travel across the region on a regular basis.
Valid U.
S.
driver’s license or equivalent.
· Preferred Qualifications: Previous Extension experience including needs identification and program development, delivery, and evaluation.
Previous experience creating outreach educational resources such as Extension publications and other appropriate products.
Demonstrated success in working effectively with university faculty, Extension personnel, growers, landowners and managers, industry professionals, government entities, media, and the public.
Demonstrated grant writing experience and record of successfully securing funding for Extension and/or research activities.
Experience conducting and publishing research in peer-reviewed publications on water-related topics.
Experience working with water supply and quality.
Experience working with drainage, irrigation, septic and wastewater systems.
