This position works effectively with staff, faculty, and academic departments to meet the goals and objectives of the office, division, and institution, as well as participates in program and event development and serves on college committees.

This position will be located on the Moorhead campus and will have duties related to advising students who receive veterans benefits.
Responsibilities: · Live the mission, vision and values of M State to ensure a positive experience for all students and stakeholders.
Service to M State students and stakeholders is a core component of the position and work responsibilities.
· Provide comprehensive advising to prospective, new, current, and returning students.
· Serve as academic advisor to a designated case load of veteran students · Develop and implement college-wide and campus-specific strategies to increase retention and persistence.
· Collaborate with college faculty, staff, administration, and external partners to support the M State mission, vision, values, and strategic plan.
· Support for campus and college operations.
Required Qualifications · Bachelor’s Degree in education, social sciences, human services, or a related field.
· Customer service skills sufficient to actively listen to and understand customer needs and provide accurate information and appropriate alternatives in a timely, thorough, courteous, respectful, and professional manner.
· Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse and traditionally underserved backgrounds.
· Strong written, interpersonal, and public speaking skills to present information in a clear and actionable way to small and large groups.
· Effective organizational skills with the ability to plan and organize multiple activities, deliver results, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
· Ability to Interpret institutional, state, and federal policies, and regulations and translate them into advising procedures and processes.
· Problem solving skills with the ability to set priorities, reason analytically, determine alternative solutions, and analyze and interpret information with a high degree of accountability and accuracy.
· Familiarity with alternative decision-making methods to be able to coach individuals on making choices about careers and education programs that will meet their needs.
· Ability to work independently with little supervision and collaboratively in a team environment.
· Experience with computer software applications and systems with the ability to create business correspondence, reports, and presentations.
· Ability to explain and help interpret complex policies involving multiple departments, systems, and levels, such as records and registration, veterans benefits and support programs, financial aid, business services, bookstore, and admissions (this list is not all inclusive).
Preferred Qualifications · Master’s Degree education, social sciences, higher education, human services, or a related field.
· Knowledge of M State and/or MinnState educational policies and procedures, programs and curriculum, services, and resources for admissions, financial aid, veterans benefits and support programs, records and registration, and student life to assist applicants and students in making sound career and educational decisions.
· Knowledge of available higher education and community resources in order to recommend the most appropriate referral.
· Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of college student development theory and varied learning styles.
· Experience working with student record systems, project management and specialty software such as DARS, ImageNow, Customer Relations Management Systems, and Office 365.
· Familiarity with research design, interpreting data, and making data driven decisions.
