POSITION: Academic Counselor LOCATION: NDSCS – Wahpeton, North Dakota TYPE OF APPOINTMENT: Full-time, 12-month, benefited position WHO MAY BE CONSIDERED: Anyone eligible to work in the United States JOB SUMMARY: The Academic Counselor helps to facilitate students’ career, educational, and personal growth; through providing academic support and guidance for (current/prospective) students and faculty in the areas of academic counseling, registration, student referrals, career counseling, academic standing, and other student issues and related activities.
The academic counselor reports to the Director of Student Success and works in collaboration with various staff and faculty to offer support services to students – focusing on students’ success.

) in psychology, social work, education or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher education and 5+ years relevant work experience Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and build professional relationships Ability to address conflict using counseling skills and effective communication skills Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks/projects and adapt to the needs of students/department Ability to efficiently use MS-Office or similar software Experience working with diverse populations Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree (M.

) in counseling and guidance, higher education, psychology, social work, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher education; potential to be eligible to pursue a postsecondary career development credential issued by the ND Board for Career and Technical Education Professional experience in counseling, academic advising, career counseling and/or student services in a college or university setting Experience advising undergraduate students using academic advising and career counseling practices Working knowledge of assessments utilized for course placement (e.
g.
ACT, SAT, Accuplacer) Understanding of college/university structures, degree requirements, and academic policies/procedures Experience with technology programs and software packages related to student information systems (e.
g.
